If you had told me five years ago I’d be running a bookkeeping and consulting firm, I would’ve laughed. At the time, I was working for a reputable carpentry company. I was comfortable with sawdust, not spreadsheets. But apparently, God had other plans.
The turning point came when I tried to pay for materials with the company Amex. Declined. That’s how I learned we were drowning financially—despite having both a bookkeeper and an accountant.
So, I did what seemed logical: I asked for full access to the records and started untangling the mess. (For the record: I’ve since learned this isn’t what most sane people do).
Here’s what happened next:
- I found out the business didn’t just need carpentry; it needed financial clarity.
- I discovered I actually enjoyed digging through the numbers to help the company make better decisions.
Fast forward to January 2025: I got laid off. The financial help I provided the company was too late, and it essentially made clear that they couldn't afford to keep many employees on staff. One week later, Ratio Verum was born. That wasn’t my plan—it was God’s timing.
Today, Ratio Verum exists to do for other small businesses what I first had to do out of necessity:
- make sense of the numbers
- bring clarity to the chaos
- help leaders make decisions they can actually trust
